The Five Kinds of Love

Love in Greek is expressed by five different words:

Epithumia — attraction to the “other”, desire
Eros — romance, longing
Storge — affection, belonging
Phile — friendship, cherishing
Agape — unconditional love, selfless giving.

“Love” is outdistancing “sex” and “garage sales” in the current FlirtySomething Times interactive poll as the most interesting subject. So, dear reader, I offer you this breakdown of love’s many meanings. Can one relationship combine all five kinds of love? What do you think? Or would two or three suffice in a soulmate?
